FC Frederick Kicks Off 10th NPSL Season This Saturday, May 18, 7:00pm @ Saint John's Catholic Prep!
FREDERICK, Md. — FC Frederick kicks off its tenth season in the National Premier Soccer League on Saturday against DMV Elite at St. John’s Catholic Prep.
Game time is 7 p.m., and the contest marks the opening of the NPSL
Mid-Atlantic Conference schedule.
This year’s FC Frederick squad has been re-tooled under third-year head coach Rob Ryerson, a former Mount St. Mary’s men’s soccer head
coach. In addition, FC Frederick’s regional and national profile will be enhanced with professional live-streaming of three of the team’s
five home matches later in the season.
Urbana grad and former William & Mary and South Carolina player John A. Eskay returns for a record seventh season with the club. He was the
team’s leading goal scorer in 2023. Eskay will be reunited with Seth Crabbe, a former Shippensburg University player from England, who was
FC Frederick’s second-leading scorer during the 2022 campaign but did not play last season.
Overall, FC Frederick returns 12 players from last year’s squad in addition to three other players who competed for the Blue in 2022, including former NPSL All-Mid-Atlantic defender and Siena University standout Cole Hellert.
Thomas Johnson grad Carson Grove and Boonsboro grad Mac Long are both back for their third seasons with FC Frederick. Grove, who plays for NCAA Division III nationally ranked Christopher Newport University, has appeared in 16 matches with 10 starts the past two seasons. Long,
who plays at Shepherd University, has appeared in 13 matches during that time.
Other key returners include Kofi Amoah, Tyler Harry, Dillon Nesteruk and Robbie Ryerson from UMBC, Brennan Gac from Bucknell, Erick
Villatoro and Jonathan Yowell from Mount St. Mary’s, and Obiora Onochie, who was FC Frederick’s second-leading scorer last year. Noah Kump, who played for USC Upstate in 2023 and is transferring to Lipscomb University this fall, is the projected Game 1 starter in goal
in what would be his FC Frederick debut.
FC Frederick plays a 10-game regular-season schedule in the highly competitive eight-team NPSL Mid-Atlantic Conference where the
Annapolis Blues are the defending champions. After this weekend’s opener, FC Frederick plays host to the Annapolis Blues on May 26,
Virginia Beach City FC on May 31, Grove United on June 4 and Alexandria Rough Riders on June 23. All home matches are at 7 p.m. at
St. John’s Catholic Prep. The May 26, May 31 and June 23 contests will be live-streamed.
The NPSL is the highest level of non-professional soccer in the U.S. and features 92 teams spread across the country.
