The number of soccer players in the U.S. has steadily increased since 2009 … More teenagers are playing soccer in the U.S. than ever before. The number of participants in U.S. high school soccer programs has recorded an all-time high in the 2014/15 season, with over 800 thousand boys and girls playing the sport across the country.1 . Moreover, over 24 million people play soccer at some level in the U.S. — second only to China.2 Over 3 million youth soccer players are registered with US Soccer programs, and soccer is the largest participation sport among youth in Frederick, MD.
ABOUT FC FREDERICK ... FC Frederick (FCF), a 501(c)(3) youth soccer club, has been operating continuously in the greater Frederick County, Maryland area since 1989. With over 800 travel players, and more than 2,000 other families that participate in its leagues, tournaments, camps and soccer schools, the club is a true soccer leader, with one of the most thoughtful and informed player development programs in the Mid-Atlantic region. Al Albert, nationally recognized soccer dignitary, made the following observation about FC Frederick’s youth program: “From what I have seen in my travels and experiences, FC Frederick has one of the finest youth development programs of any youth soccer club in the United States.” FC Frederick has placed over 580 players onto college rosters, more than 325 players onto Olympic Development Program teams, and thousands of players onto High School Varsity and Junior Varsity soccer teams. Recently, the Club added Minor League men’s and women’s teams to its programming thereby completing its developmental pyramid with full-service offerings from ages 5 to 25.
FC Frederick is deeply involved in the local community. In 2012, the club launched its award-winning Golden Mile Soccer Program, a free soccer program for at-risk kids from the Hillcrest area of Frederick City. In 2017, the Superintendent of Frederick County Public Schools recognized the club for its service to several FCPS after-school programs. The club regularly supports fundraising initiatives for a variety of causes, including anti-smoking, juvenile diabetes, and childhood obesity.
