Park could allevate field use competition

Frederick County officials are hoping a new sports field scheduled to begin construction in the spring in New Market will relieve some concerns parents are raising about the lack of sufficient space for sporting activities. The Old National Pike District Park is still two years away from being ready for games, and Frederick County Parks Superintendent Earl Eyler said county workers are anxious to get started on it.

Eyler believes the park will help out youth leagues in their ongoing pursuit to secure playing fields. Located off Md. Route 144, near Jessie Smith Road, the park will consist of one baseball field, four multi-purpose fields, picnic shelters, playgrounds and a paved hiking trail, project manager Bill Kosola explained.
